The funeral service of Rev. Lansing Snell was held at the Methodist Protestant church, Sunday, at one o'clock, p.m. The service was conducted by Pastor W. H. Bently. The thronged church and a delegation from G.A.H. post of Clayton, of which he was a member, gave evidence of the esteem in which he was held. He was born in Herkimer county, NY, and at the time of his death was nearly 85 years of age. He came to Jefferson county nearly 43 years ago and has been a resident of the town of Orleans in Clayton the most of the time since. In early life he had a taste for military matters, and at the very early age of 19 years he was captain of a rifle company, N. Y. State militia in Herkimer county. In 1861 he organized. Co. B. 94th Reg. N. Y. S. Volunteers, in which he served as captain until the summer of 1862. In the autumn of 1864 he organized Co. E , of the 186th, in which he served as captain until the close of the war. For something over 80 years he has been a minister in the Onondaga Conference of the Methodist Protestant church, although for a few years past he has sustained a superannuated relation to that body in view of poor health. He was a patriotic soldier an honorable and respected citizen and a devoted Christian minister. All who were acquainted with him join in saying, "truly a good man has left us."
