After the Civil War, a soldier from Waseca County, Chancey Brown, proposed to Clara and she accepted. They were married in Waseca County on November 22, 1868. In 1881, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and Chancey earned a living as a contractor. He was hired by the Minneapolis Police Department in 1889. They soon bought a home at 2308 Johnson Street NE.
Clara had four children, Herbert born in 1869, Alice born in 1871, Helen born in 1875 and Edith born in 1880. Chancey retired in 1907 and they continued to live in the house on Johnson Street. Clara died in Minneapolis on January 1, 1929. Chancey died on January 10, 1930. Both Clara and Chancey were buried in Hillside Cemetery in northeast Minneapolis.
