Henry Sylvester "Syl" Gray was born June 19, 1852 in Marshall County, Kentucky, a son of Bedford & Penelope Marie Larimer Gray. Syl & Martha Jane Burnham married September 19, 1878, in Scale Community, Marshall County, Kentucky. They were blessed with 9 children. The first six, Ada Ninval, Edward Buel, Ella Dell, Frederick Chesterfield, Floyd, and Hattie Louisa, were born in Kentucky. The last three children, Beulah Mae, Maude Salome, and Bonnie Beatrice, were born in Texas. Floyd died at about age 2 in Kentucky.
Henry Sylvester died December 22, 1932 at the home of his daughter, Hattie Gray, in the Blackfoot Community (death certificate says Ward Community).
Syl and Martha are buried in the family plot at Holly Springs Cemetery along with two of their daughters, Maude Bernard, and Beulah Nix; and grand-daughter, Nadine Bernard Boatwright.
