COEBURN, Va. Fred Jessie Bates, 86, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015, at Wellmount Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He was formerly employed by Daniel's Plumbing & Heating in Norton. He was the son of the late P. H. Bates and Nettie Bates; also preceded in death by his wife, Wanda June McAuthur Bates; sisters, Virgie Suella Bates, and Betty Lou Bates; and a brother, Clifford Elmo Bates. Survivors include a son, Charlie Ray Bates, and wife, Pamela K. Bates, Coeburn; two sisters, Shelby Jean Reed, Coeburn, and Lois Faye Carico, Duffield, Va.; a brother, Franklin D. Bates, El Paso, Texas; ,granddaughter, Regina K. Bates; grandson, Matthew Charles Bates; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Fred Jessie Bates will be held after 5 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Estes Funeral Home. Burial will be held Sunday, December 13, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Greenwood Acres Memorial Gardens with the Rev. R. L. Crawford officiating. Arrangements by Estes Funeral Home, 114 High Ave., Coeburn, Va.
