MELNIK, Wis. – George Basken Sr., 93, of Melnik, died suddenly early Sunday morning at the home of his son, Edward, in Melnik.
Mr. Basken was born in the town of Kossuth in Manitowoc county on July 19, 1860. In 1887 he was married to the former Margaret Dolezal. The family operated a farm near Francis Creek in Manitowoc county until 30 years ago, when he retired and moved to Melnik. His wife died 18 months ago.
He is survived by three sons, George Jr., town of Lark; Henry of Francis Creek, and Edward, Melnik; one daughter, Mrs. Emma Pagel, Melnik; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Further surviving him are two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Melnik Presbyterian Church with the Rev. C. H. Phitts officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body is at the Urbanek-Schlei Funeral home in Manitowc, where it will lie in state until 10 o’clock Wednesday morning when it will be brought to the church to lie in state until the time of services.
