Clarence H. Strassman, 92, of Howards Grove, died Saturday morning, March 27, 1999, at his daughter's home. He was born on September 7, 1906, in Kiel, son of the late William (Lena) Weiss Strassman, Clarence attended New Holstein Schools.

On April 12, 1930, he married the former Gertrude Mathes in Kiel and she preceded him in death on August 15, 1989. He was a member of St. Peter's U.C.C. in Kiel. Clarence taught himself how to play the organ, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling.

Survivors include his three daughters, Dolores Miller and Carol Schmidt, both of Howards Grove, Sandy (Robert) Schmitz of Franklin; 10 grandchildren, Gregg and Dave Miller, Geri Schmitt, Jeanne Matheis, Lori Hudgins, Robert "Jay" Chambers, Jayne Datgan, Marsha Bauer, Corinne Ritter, Brian Schmitz. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, one sister, Jenny Rabe of New Holstein, three brothers, Elmer (Rosie) Strassman of New Holstein, Howard Strassman of Eau Claire, Kenneth Strassman of Kiel. He is further survived by three sisters-in-law, Eldora (Norman) Gutschow of Kiel, Evelyn Hass of New Holstein and Luetta Wollersheim of Newport Richey, Fla.

Clarence was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one sister, Lucille Poppe; one brother, Harry Strassman Sr.; two sons-in-law, James Miller and Gene Schmidt.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 1999, at St. Peter's UCC, Kiel, with the Rev. Raymond Coombs officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Town of Schleswig. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for St. Peter's Building Fund.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who stopped to visit, send cards or pray for Clarence, especially Visiting Nurses Association, his nurse, Cindy, aides Joyce and Nancy and especially Rev. Coombs for all their help.
