Mr. Green was surrounded by his family when he passed away Monday, December 21. He was a lifelong resident of the Cassville and Walling community in White County. He was born to Sallie Lee Lowery and James “Jimmy” Carroll Green on November 24, 1929. From an early age, he farmed and developed his talent with animals and the land.
He met his wife of 62 years, Martha Willene Wilhite Green, as he rode the fence line near the one-room schoolhouse at Jones’s Chapel in which she taught.
Throughout his life, Joe was an avid horseman, passing on his love and talent through the generations. He was known for his massive gardens, and his biscuits were the best. He also drove a school bus for White County Schools for over 20 years.
In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by his brother Willie “WT” Thomas and sisters Pearl Lee Green Gooch and Callie Green.
Joe is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Glenda and Barry Jones of Silver Point; his grandchildren Kris Jones, of Silver Point, and Trent and Stephanie Jones, of Gordonsville; and the lights of his life, great-grandchildren Evelyn Rose Jones, Grayson Owen Jones, and Mack Joseph Jones. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law, Eugene and Charles Walker; as well as his nephew Harold Holland who resided with the Green family as a child. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews who were a great part of his life.
Brother Joe Neal will officiate at the services. Pall bearers will be family and friends.
