Helen R. Kortas

Helen R. Kortas, age 94, of 1433 N. Sixth St., Manitowoc, died early Sunday morning, March 12, 2006 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Helen was born Sept. 18, 1911 in Newton, daughter of the late Frank and Katherine Fruzyna Bonin. She married Edward Kortas on Feb. 7, 1931 at St. Casmirs Catholic Church, Northeim by Fr. Joseph Weiss. Edward preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1980.

Helen was employed at S.S. Kresge Co. for many years and Colonial Inn, Manitowoc. She was a member of the former St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc Senior Citizens and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Survivors include one daughter: Irene Ihlenfeld of Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Randal Meisner of Manitowoc, Mary Meisner of Madison, Tom Ihlenfeld of Rantoul, Ill., Sally Hinds of Manitowoc; two great-grandsons: Randall and Tom Ihlenfeld, Jr. of Rantoul, Ill.; three great-granddaughters: Kati Irene Hinds, Kara Irene Ihlenfeld and Kaylynn Marie Ihlenfeld, all of Manitowoc; two sisters, Florence Rodewald of Newton and Evelyn Mayer of Sheboygan Falls. She is also survived by a special goddaughter and niece, Janet Lensmeyer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Vilas Mann Ihlenfeld; and two grandsons: Jon Ihlenfeld on July 29, 1993, and Timmy Ihlenfeld on Feb. 6, 1994; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Edwin and Janet Bonin, Ralph and Mildred Bonin; two brothers-in-law: Elroy Rodewald and Hilary Mayer; and a godson: Donald Kortas.

The family will greet family and friends on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The visitation will continue on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Marshall Street.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Marshall Street. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Hoffman with burial to follow at St. Casimir's Cemetery, Northeim.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc has the privilege of assisting the Kortas family with arrangements.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Carla and Cindy, nurses at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center for the care they extended to Helen.
