We lost a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Feb. 6, 2002. William H. Wiegert was born March. 11, 1931, to Isadore and Erna Harder Wiegert in the town of Cato. He lived a joyous life filled with a loving family and countless friends. He proudly served as a Sonar Operator in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. In 1957, he married Joyce Evenson at Valders West Evangelical Lutheran Church. Together Bill and Joyce operated the Valders Ambulance Service, from their home for the first 30 years and helped grown the program into what it is today. Bill served as the Valders Police Chief from 1969 to 1996, as Valders Fire Chief and Director of Valders EMS from 1969 to 2000 and Valders Public Utility Director from 1963 to 1996. He not only saved many lives through his work with the ambulance and fire department, but he touched many lives as well.

Bill is survived by a family who loved him very much and will miss him terribly, including his wife, Joyce; Judith and Jeff Hanson, Manitowoc; William R. and Christine Wiegert, Green Bay; Dean Wiegert, Milwaukee, Robert and Brenda Wiegert, Green Bay; Mark and Laura Wiegert, Valders; and Barry and Kim Wiegert, Green Bay. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Upton and Marion Wiegert, Manitowoc; Curtis and Connie Wiegert, Manitowoc; Carlene Leonard, Sheboygan; and Daniel and Barb Wiegert, Newton, He is further survived by five brothers-in-law, Marlyn Evenson and his wife, Margaret, Gene Evenson and his wife, Veronica, Donald Evenson and his wife, Judy, all of Valders; Roger Evenson, Kiel; Dennis Evenson and his wife, Marlene, Valders; three sisters-in-law, Betty Jeske, June Meyer and her husband, Daniel and Virginia Meyer and her husband, Robert, all of Valders. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Bill was a member of the American Legion, Manitowoc Firefighters Association, Two-Cylinder Club, Viking Bow and Gun Club and Valders Carving Club. He used his extensive knowledge, expertise and experience to become a founding member of the Manitowoc EMS Association and also the Village Association. He is a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Valders and is a former Sunday school teacher. He was also a CPR instructor, worked as an electrician in his spare time and served as building inspector for the village of Valders, village of Whitelaw, town of Manitowoc Rapids and Town of Liberty.

Bill was a jack of all trades and mastered them all. He loved tractors, especially his old John Deere Model H. He was a master woodworker. He gave his heart and soul to the Valders Fire Department and Ambulance, even after his retirement. And he especially loved spending time with his precious grandchildren, Brandon, Kendall, Nicole, Serenity, Joe, Beth, Alexis and Brooke.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Trevor; a sister-in-law, Ruby; three brothers-in-law, Clifford, Ted, Lester; and three nephews, Jay, Craig and Wally.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. Officiating at the service will be Pastor William Timm with burial at Valders West Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders, from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at 12 noon.

Memorials may be made to Valders Fire Department, Valders Ambulance or Christ Community Lutheran Church, Green Bay.
