Raymond M. Diem, 98, of School Hill died Tuesday December 14, 2021 at Aurora Medical Center, Grafton. He was born on August 3, 1923 son of the late Henry & Martha (Gutschow) Diem. Ray attended Woodland grade school in School Hill and Kiel High School.
On October 2, 1954 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Garlieb at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. Along with his wife Carolyn, Ray farmed all his life in the Town of Meeme. During that time he also worked for Hayssen Mfg for 15 years.
Ray was was the treasurer of the School Hill Cheese Co-op for 10 years and was a member of the Reedsville Feed Co-op for 20 years. With an adventurous spirit and a love of flying, Ray began taking flying lessons in 1967. He was an accomplished pilot gaining his license in 1969 and continued to fly until he was in his 90's. Ray was a member of local bowling leagues and was a member of the American Bowling Congress. In his younger days he enjoyed motorcycle riding and dance roller skating. He and Carolyn enjoyed traveling both in the US and were able to see Mexico, Europe and Canada. In his free time he enjoyed building bird house and radio controlled airplanes. Ray was an avid gardener and continued to keep his garden when he was well into his 90's. He was a lover of all sports, but he especially liked football and basketball.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years; Carolyn, his three sons; Steven (Leslie) Diem of Cross Plains, David Diem (Patty), James Diem (Karen) both of School Hill. His grandchildren; Briana Webb, Taylor Diem (fiance Abby), Peyton Diem, step grand daughter; Michelle (Nathanael) May, great grandchildren; Ava & Hudson, step great grandchildren; August, Estelle, Atticus and Evangeline. He is further survived by his sister; Dolores Schulz, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Edwin (Betty) Garlieb, Gary (Pam) Garlieb and Trudy Garlieb along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Wilbert Diem, grand daughter; SSG Amy Krueger and brothers-in-law; Robert Schulz and Herbert Garlieb.
Funeral Services for Ray will be held on Saturday December 18, 2021 at 11:00am at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (19214 Cty Rd XX, Kiel) with the Rev. Ted Olsen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A time of visitation for family and friends will take place at the church on Saturday from 9:00am until 10:45am when we will have brief family rites before the service at 11:00am.
