Minnie was born in Germany, married her husband Christian Mandelkow and their first two children; Bertha and Herman were born there. When Chris and Minnie immigrated to America, they lived in Ohio and were blessed with two more daughters; Anna and Louise. Eventually the Mandelkow family settled in Avoca, Iowa where their youngest son Gustav was born in 1882. Minnie remarried after the death of her husband Chris Mandelkow and oldest son Herman. Her 2nd husband was Hans Engel, who Minnie married on May 8th, 1898 in Avoca. The Preuss grandsons always knew her as Grandma Engel. Her headstone is to the north of the Mandelkow monument.
