Marilou was born to Mary Louise Vosler and Henry Christensen, living all her life in Council Bluffs and did not have any contact with birth father Henry as he deserted young wife Mary with 3 children after a son was born in 1924. Her mother married Grant Goehring in 1927 and he became a real Dad to Marilou, Henny and Darwin raising them as his own. Marilou graduated from Thomas Jefferson after she married Dexter Cowles, the boy next door! She and Dexter were the parents of 3 children and Marilou first began working part time at Beno's Department Store when youngest was just 2 years. Later after working as a secretary with her sister Henny at Offutt Air Base, she became a secretary for the Internal Revenue Service in Omaha for 18 years. She retired in October 1980 as a payroll clerk for the Corp of Engineers. Marilou was a member of Community of Christ Church, Jennie Edmundson Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
