Verlin B. "Andy" Anderson, age 86, formerly of Champaign, passed away peacefully at his home in Cincinnati, OH on January 11, 2016.
Loving husband of the late Mary Lou (Rindt ) Anderson. Devoted father of Cindy (Albert) Mitchell of Maroa and Debby (Randy) Cowles of Cincinnati, OH. Grandchildren are Melissa Mitchell (Nick) Crozier of Urbana and Hollie Mitchell (Cory) Kennedy of Sterling, CO. Great-grandchildren are Braydon, Keeley and Cade Crozier of Urbana. Also surviving is his sister Sherrill Vander Bush of California and his beloved cats, Milo and Mia.
Andy was born May 16, 1929 in Santa Ana, California to the late Verlin and Myrtle (Meacham) Anderson. He later served in the Air Force, stationed at Chanute Field. During this time, he met Mary Lou Rindt and they married in 1957. He lived in Champaign for many years before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio in 2010.
Andy retired from the University of Illinois Aug. 31, 1984, where he was an Inventory Specialist in the Physics and MRL departments. He spent his retirement traveling and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed woodworking, adding many custom items to the family home and built several pieces of furniture.
Andy never met a stranger. He enjoyed the company of many friends over his lifetime including co-workers, golf buddies, neighbors, residents and staff of The New England Club.
Services will held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 14th at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Dr., Savoy. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Urbana.
Memorials may be made to The Champaign County Humane Society.
