They settled in Avoca, Iowa, and Holger helped his father farm for many years, after which he was employed by the State of Iowa Liquor Commission. Holger served his country in the Navy during WWII and when the war was over he returned to Avoca. He really loved to make great deals with cars and real estate property and made some good income from his investments.
Holger married Luella "Lulu" Frey Brustkern on February 29, 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They shared the love of dancing and enjoyed going to the Legion Club every weekend. Lulu and Holger adopted several pets who were very dear to them; from Misty, Shadow, Frasier to Thumper the bunny. Family was very special and important to both of them.
Holger died on November 19,2006 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 85 and was buried in Graceland Cemetery at Avoca, Iowa. He was a wonderful son, caring brother and favorite uncle who cherished his Danish heritage always.
