SESSER - Ashland Patrick "Pete" Compton, 72, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 1996, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Brayfield Funeral Home in Sesser, with Kip Adams officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Compton was a retired coal miner. He was a member of the Church of Christ, the Masons and the United Mine Workers and was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was born Aug. 27, 1923 in Glo, KY, to Burgess and Rhoda (Moore) Compton. He married Dorothy Lee Hamilton on July 12, 1946 in Prestonsburg, KY. She survives. Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell Patrick and Jan Compton of Benton and Ernie Blake and Rea Compton of Georgetown, KY; one brother, Omery Compton of Price, KY; two sisters, Gertrude Rose of Price and Alice Mae Conley of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
