Donald P. Benton, 73, 3 South Shaver St., Mount Union, died at 8 a.m., Monday, October 23, 1989, in Woodland Retirement Center where he had been a patient.

Services were held October 26 at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. The Rev. Scott McKenzie officiated. Interment was made in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg RD.

Born March 30, 1916, in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillie (Peightal) Benton. He was united in marriage to the form Alma Coder, on June 26, 1942, in Mount Union.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. John (Linda) Musika, Lansdale; Mrs. Jonathan (Nancy J.) Marden, Londonderry N.H.; Mrs. Robert(Dr. Betty A.) Hughes, Carlisle, and 10 grandchildren.

Also surviving is a sister, S. Arlene Hodgin, Beaver. One brother, William, and a sister, Winifred, preceded him in death.

Mr. Benton was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union, where he took part in the Herman Smith Bible school class.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, he was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. He retired in 1982 from Pennsylvania Glass Sand, now U.S. Silica, Mapleton, following 26 years of service. He was a 1936 graduate of Mount Union Area High School.

He was a member of Simpson-Hunt Post 107, American Legion, Mount Union, Mount Union VFW Post 5754 and F&AM Lodge 688, Mount Union. He received the 32nd degree from the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Altoona. He was also a member of the 13 gallon blood donors club, American Red Cross, Mount Union Chapter.

Memorial contributions may be made to any one of the following: First United Methodist Church, Mount Union; Mount Union Chapter of the American Red Cross; or the Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown.
