Zook November 26, 1856, in Hanover, York County, and fathered Laura Ann (b. 08/07/59 - married Ellis L. Benedict). Wounded in the left arm at the battle of Fort Stedman outside Petersburg, Virginia, on March 25, 1865, he discharged by surgeon's certificate per general order to date May 20, 1865.

By 1870, he was living in Kickapoo, Peoria County, Illinois, and was in Page County, Iowa, by no later than 1885 where he was a member of Northboro's Gettysburg Post No. 241, G.A.R.
