Obituary for Mildred "Millie" Cook
MILDRED “MILLIE” DUNCANSON COOK, 90 of Ottawa, KS passed away peacefully Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center Richmond, KS.
Millie was born August 26, 1925 in Tonganoxie, KS the daughter of Mortimer A. and Grace (Courtney) Duncanson. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School, Class of 1941. She later attended Stewart Beauty Academy in Topeka, KS.
Millie was united in marriage to Noel Edward Cook on October 20, 1945 in Vallejo, California. They shared over forty-two years of marriage before the death of her husband on June 25, 1988.
They lived in Medford Hillside, MA, where Millie was a homemaker. They moved to Tonganoxie and since 1958 lived in Ottawa, KS. Millie owned and operated Millies Hair Fashion in Ottawa for thirty years.
Millie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa, KS; Sunflower Piece Makers Quilt Club; and was a Girl Scout Leader in Ottawa, KS. She enjoyed gardening and camping in their motor home at Lamont Hill, near Pomona Lake while spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Noel; son, David Allen Cook; seven brothers, Jim, Ralph, John, Ted, Bob, Courtney and Fred Duncanson; and three sisters, Grace Warren, Martha Leimkuler and Mary Dustin.
Survivors include a son, Dana Edward Cook and wife Cindy of Lawrence, KS; a daughter, Sandra Ann Carlson and husband David of Ottawa, KS; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
To celebrate Millie’s life, the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Graveside services and interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
