Zola, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Meridian Thursday, October 3, 2013.

She was born March 24, 1917 to Tollie and Bertie Rogers in Palco, KS. She attended both grade school and high school at Palco consolidated school. After graduation she was certified to teach. She taught two years in a small country school called Amboy with 13 pupils.

Zola had her mind set on Idaho and NNC. So in 1937 she drove to Idaho with two of her cousins. After arriving she had a few jobs such as topping onions, working in a café, picking cherries and washing in a packing shed to put herself through college. After two years at NNC, Zola started teaching school in the Emmett School District. She was able to finish her BA at NNC.

Zola met Clarence Clauson at the Emmett Nazarene Church. After a short courtship they were married June 20, 1943. They farmed in Emmett and Eagle then moved to Meridian where she continued teaching. Zola taught for 31 years in Idaho.

Clarence and Zola were able to do some traveling together. They visited 25 countries and most every state in the U.S.

Zola was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa for 25 years and a member of Valley Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, Meridian for more than 50 years, where she made countless friends.

Zola is survived by her husband of 70 years; her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Charles Rebman and son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Clauson; two brothers and one sister; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren who loved her very much!

She was preceded in death by her parents and five of her brothers and sisters.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Meadow Lake Village in Meridian and Heart and Home Hospice for the outstanding care and compassion shown for Zola.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorials may be made to Trinity Pines Camp and Conference Center or a charity of your choice, in Zola’s name.

A service in honor of Zola’s life will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 10th at Valley Shepherd Church of the Nazarene located at 150 W. Maestra, Meridian. Private family burial will be held at Meridian Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.
