Solomon Hakes b. 12 Dec 1758 Canaan, Litchfield County, Connecticut m. 12 Dec 1778 in Albany County, New York, Anna Downing. Enumerated in Hebron, Washington County, New York in 1790 next to George Hakes with one male of age sixteen and over (b. before 1774), three males under age sixteen (b. 1775-90), and three females. Enumerated in Hebron in 1800 as Solomon Hicks with two males under age ten (b. 1791-1800), one male of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1785-90), two males of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1775-84), one male of age forty five and over (b. before 1775), one female under age ten (b. 1791-1800), one female of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1785-90), one female of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1775-84), and one female of age forty five and over (b. before 1755). They settled in what became northern Columbia Township at or near what became known as Baptist Hill about 1806. Enumerated in Smithfield, Lycoming County (Bradford County and Columbia Township not yet formed), Pennsylvania in 1810 with one male of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1795-1800), one male of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1785-94), one male over age forty five (b. before 1765), one female of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1795-1800), one female of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1785-94), and one female over age forty five (b. before 1765). On 10 Oct 1812 (Bradford County deed Liber 9:141) William White of Philadelphia deeded 186 acres for $465.80 secured by a mortgage to Solomon Hakes, mentions southeast corner of lot granted to Adam Seely and corner of Solomon S. Hakes. Solomon appears on the 1813 assessment list of Smithfield Township (Columbia Township not yet formed). Solomon appears on the 1814 assessment list of Columbia Township with 11 improved acres, 169 unimproved acres, 1 house, 1 horse, 1 cow; 1815, 20 improved acres, 77 unimproved acres, 2 oxen, 1 cow; 1816, 20 improved acres, 77 unimproved acres, 1 horse, 2 oxen, 2 cows; 1817 20 improved acres, 77 unimproved acres, 2 oxen, 3 cows, 1 horse; 1818, 20 improved acres, 77 unimproved acres, 2 cows, 1 horse; 1819, 18 improved acres, 77 unimproved acres, 2 cows, 1 horse. Enumerated in Columbia Township in 1820, with sons Solomon S.,David, and James in neighboring households, with one male of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1805-10), one male of age forty five and over (b. before 1755), two females of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1775-84), and one female of age forty five and over (b. before 1755). On 10 June 1828 Solomon Hakes and Ann his wife assigned their 186 acres to William White, both signed by mark. Enumerated in Columbia Township in 1830 with one male of age twenty and under age thirty (b. 1801-10), one male of age sixty and under age sixty and under age seventy (b. 1761-70), one female of age five and under age ten (b. 1821-25), one female of age ten and under age fifteen (b. 1816-20), and one female of age sixty and under age seventy (b. 1761-70). Enumerated in Columbia Township in 1840 with one male of age eighty and under age ninety (b. 1751-60) and one female of age eighty and under age ninety (b. 1751-60). Solomon d. 8 Oct 1841 and Anna d. 1842. They were perhaps buried on their farm as there are no markers in any local cemeteries. Son, James resided on the north side of present Fairbanks Road east of Baptist Hill on the 1858 atlas and a family cemetery may be in that vicinity. Solomon was of age to have served in the American Revolution but no record is found of his enlistment or application for pension.

There is no indication this family cemetery exists. The nearest public burial site to their farm was the Coryland Cemetery in Wells Township and if buried there, there are no markers. The other public burial site was the Morgan Cemetery in Austinville. The Baptist Hill Cemetery, nearby their residence, had not yet been created at the time of their deaths.
