Robert married Emeline Poor in Goffstown on Feb. 25, 1847. They remained there for several years but by 1860 were residents of Manchester NH. After returning from combat in the Civil War in 1862 the family moved to Derry, then about 1867 moved to Lawrence MA. The year 1880 found them back in Manchester where they remained.
Robert was a carpenter by trade and worked as such until his death. He and Emeline had seven children, six of whom survived into adulthood. He was the son of Samuel Dow and Mary McAllister of Goffstown.
