Jerry Lyons has two gravestones. This one where his body was buried and another memorial with his wife, Margaret Halpin, at the Braceville Center Cemetery in Newton Falls, Ohio. His children added his name to his wife's gravestone resulting in much confusion among his descendents.

See Findagrave #69842310 for his other gravestone which includes links to his children.

He was born in Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland, probably in 1847, with reporting varying between 1845 and 1847. He immigrated in the early 1860s with his parents. They originally lived in Jersey City, NJ with most of the men working for the railroad. He married Margaret Jane Halpin, probably in Jersey City, about 1866. They had eleven children.

By the 1870 Census they were in Braceville, Ohio where they remained until 1898. Jerry purchased land in 1874. According to newspaper accounts, the extended Lyons and Moriarity families engaged in a running feud in the 1880s with the Fulweiler family that resulted in his house and barn being mysteriously burned in 1893. By 1898, he had sold his property in Ohio and when they returned to Jersey City, NJ where Jerry was a foreman at a railroad yard. By 1910 they were back in Ohio, living in Cleveland. After being widowed, he moved to Topeka in 1914 to join daughter Katie Tassell. He lived in Kansas until his death in 1937. Like his father before him, he claimed to be much older than he was in his later years.

His children were:

* (Patrick) Peter Henry Lyons (1867 - 1949)*
* Mary Lyons Neithamer (1870 - 1902)*
* Cornelius Frank Lyons (1871 - 1955)*
* Kathryn Lyons Tassell (1873 - 1958)*
* John Patrick Lyons (1874 - 1948)*
* William Lyons (1878 - 1885)*
* Jerome William Lyons (1880 - 1945)*
* Margaret Lyons Creske (1883 - 1941)*
* Leonard A. Lyons (1886 - 1966)*
* Matthew C. Lyons (1887 - 1890)*
* Eleanor Lyons Proehl (1891 - 1962)*

Two of his sons, Frank and Leonard, were criminals and gangsters at least in their youth working with their brother-in-law John Tassell. There mentions in the record of the Lyons-Tassell Gang. The Tassells later ran "joints"--essentially speakeasies with illegal liquor in Topeka, and daughter Katie was called the "queen of the jointists" in the local newspapers.

The other children were all respectable citizens with at least three sons working for railroads.
