Frank Stroeing
1888 - 1956

Frank Stroeing was born on 24 Feb 1888 in New Munich, Minn to Herman and Gertrude (Roering) Stroeing. He was the 8th child of the 13 children in the Stroeing family.

On 14 Apr 1914 when Frank was 26 years old, he married Margaretha Buettner, the daughter of Casper and Katrina Buettner - age 29. The young couple moved to the Stroeing family farm in St. Martin Township, 4 miles south of New Munich, Minn.

On 11 Jan 1921, after nearly 7 years of marriage and no children, Margaretha Buettner Stroeing passed away following a paralytic stroke. She was buried in Row HH, Plot 10 of the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, New Munich, Minn.


On 9 Aug 1921 when Frank was 33, he married Anna Buettner - age 23, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in St. Martin, Minn. Fr. Eugene, OSB officiated the ceremony, which was witnessed by Laura Stroeing and Joseph Buettner, siblings of the bride & groom. The couple made their home on the Stroeing family farm 4 miles south of New Munich, Minn.

Anna Buettner was born on 30 Nov 1897 in St. Martin, Minn to John H and Katherine (Koetter) Buettner. Anna Buettner and Margaretha Buettner are paternal first cousins.

In 1914, Herman & Gertrude Stroeing sold the family farm to Frank & Margaretha Stroeing. In the late 1950s, Frank & Anna sold the family farm to their son, Vernon Stroeing and his wife Marge (Wensman) Stroeing.

Car Accident
On Monday, 23 Apr 1956, Frank and Anna Stroeing were returning to Freeport, with two young Rosen grandchildren, when they collided with another vehicle on Hwy 52, about 2 miles east of Freeport. All 4 passengers in the Stroeing vehicle were thrown from the car.

Anna Buettner Stroeing, age 58, died in Freeport, Minn, on 23 Apr 1956 at the scene of the car accident. Her husband, Frank Stroeing, age 68, died from his injuries at the Melrose Hospital at 6:00 am on Wednesday, 25 Apr 1956, about 43 hours after the accident. The Rosen children were hospitalized and survived.

A double funeral for Frank and Anna Stroeing was held on Saturday, 28 Apr 1956 at 9:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, Minn. The couple was buried on 28 Apr 1956 in Row MM, Plots 29 & 30 of the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery.

The youngest child, Rita Stroeing Stang, was just 15 years old when both her parents died. Vern & Marge (Wensman) Stroeing were married the following year (1957) and for the next few years, were surrogate parents to Rita and Marvin Stroeing.

Frank's parents - Herman and Gertrude Stroeing - are buried in Immaculate Conception Cemetary in Row F and his first wife, Margaretha (Buettner) Stroeing, is buried Row HH, Plot 10. His daughter, Dorothy Stroeing, is also buried in this cemetery. (links to all are below)
