Roland "Ron" "Peanuts" E. LaPlant, age 83, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He was born in 1932, along with his twin brother Robert, to William and Bessie LaPlant in Harris Townships, MN.
He grew up with his ten siblings in Harris Township and attended Wendigo School. Ron was united in marriage to Norma Grover on November 15, 1952. He was employed with the iron ore mines, and later he worked for Blandin Paper Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1994.
Ron was a member of the Itasca Vintage Car Club. He loved cars and racing, and was happy to assisted his son Dale on the flag stand at the stock car races. Ron volunteered at Itasca Nursing Home and was a tour guide at Blandin Paper Co. for many years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: Henry, Eddie, Charlie, James “Roy”, Lawrence “String” and Robert; and sisters: Lillian Surface and Doris Erickson.
Ron is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma; daughter, Debbie (Rob) Grooms; sons: R. Dale (Delores) LaPlant and Danny LaPlant; sister, Alice Bishop; brother, Lloyd (Bev) LaPlant; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Burial in Harris Cemetery, Harris Township, MN.
