He served in the Army Air Service in World War I and was later an airport manager in AR and FL. He has been described as an "aviation pioneer."
His first wife was Ellen Welsh 1897-1926 who he married in 1920. She died in a traffic accident. Oddly, she was quoted as saying that flying was safer than driving. She was the daughter of John and Ella Welsh of Brownstown, IN. There is a 1917 newspaper report of his mother and Ellen Welsh going to IL to visit him before he deployed to France.
His second wife Mary Froley (1902-1993) was the daughter of John Froley and his wife Elizabeth McInerney. She was buried in Little Rock, AR where she had family links and seems to have moved after his death. Their son is also buried in AR.
They seem to have met and married in Arkansas where Wright was managing an air field before 1928. They moved to Ohio by 1935 and then to Florida by 1940.
