Sergeant Leon Jones,Jr was born October 23, 1943 in Atlanta GA to the late Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jones, Sr. His homecoming was August 18, 1993.
He was united in holy matrimony to Miss Sandra Louis Baynse on July 21, 1963 at Greater Mt Carmel Baptist Church. Four children were born to this union.
Leon began his walk with Chirst at a young age at Greater Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev.O.C. Woods. As a teenager, he served on the Junior Usher Board. He was a dedicated and active member. In 1985, he started attending Fellowship of Faith Church International.
Leon attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1962. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on October 9,1962. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, Pistol Sharpshooter Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Vietman Service Medal and the Vietman Campaign Medal. He attained the rank of Sergeant and on March 29,1967 received an honorable discharge.
In 1968, Leon joined the City of Atlanta Police Department and attained the rank of Sergeant. He received a Sacrifice in Action Award in 1972. He worked in Homicide, Narcotics, Internal Affairs, and License and Permits. He was liked by all who came in contact with him.
Leon leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Sandra Louise Jones, three sons, Leon Jones III, Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Jones (Tammie), and Dane Jones; one daughter, Shawn Jones; three grandchildren, Lauren, Terrence, and Darrel, Jr.; one stepsister and four stepbrothers, Beverly Ann Murphy, Leonard S. Jones, Wallace Whitsett, Georgia; three aunts, Elizabeth Johnson, Melissa Rucker, and Susie Brooks, all of Trenton, NJ; three uncles, John E., Melvin W, and Bobby C. Jones, all of Atlanta GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
