Her name appears on her marriage record and on her grave marker as "Manerva," an indication that was her preferred spelling. Though many family trees show her place of birth as Burnet County (where she was married), that is not likely. The first settlers arrived in 1854 (14 years after she was born) in the area that later became Burnet County. Manerva's father died in Fayette County, Texas, in 1848, and she is found living with relatives in Fayette County in the 1850 census.
