Sixteen Year Old Girl Drowns In Croton Lake Miss Lulu M., 16 year old daughter of Charles and M. Booth Austin of 965 Main street, was drowned when ice in Croton Lake near Dixie gave way from under her and a companion Thursday afternoon about live o'clock.

With Albert Tompkins, who resides in that vicinity, Miss Austin was skating in a cove of the New York City watershed. With no warning the ice gave way and both were thrown in the cold water. Tompkins managed to reach safety after almost losing his own life trying to save the girl. He is reported to be in a serious condition from the shock and submersion. Cut hands indicated that Miss Austin had endeavored to save herself by clutching at the jagged ice which gave way almost as soon as touched.

Help was summoned and the pulmotor of the Mohegan Volunteer Firemen's Association was rushed to the lake. Dr. Lane of Yorktown was also called and endeavored to resuscitate the victim whose body was recovered by diving in the chilly waters.
Funeral services will be held from the Baptist church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment will be at Cold Spring.

Miss Austin was born at Cold Spring on October 8, 1912, the daughter of Charles and M. Booth Austin. — THE HIGHLAND DEMOCRAT. PEEKSKILL, N.Y., SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1928.
