No documentation to support birth year; based on 1850 and 1860 censuses birth year is 1756-1759, Virginia or North Carolina. Name is often seen as John Lowell Spurlock but no documentation on name of Lowell. Often referred to as "Old" John Spurlock of Barbour County, Alabama, because of his advanced age. Wife is cited as Sarah "Sally" Eliphair Avent (1768-1840), born in North Carolina and dying between 1841-1849 in Barbour County. Prior to 1830, info unreliable but is credibly cited as a son of Drury Owen Spurlock and Comfort (?). In 1830, John was in Pike County, Alabama, with a male between 10-14; male, 60-69; two females, 10-14; and a female between 50-59 years in his home. By 1840 the area of Pike County had become Barbour County and in John's home were a male, 80-89, and a female between 60-69 years.By 1850, John's wife had died and he was living with John Spurlock in Butler County, AL. He was listed as 91 yoa thus a birth of 1759, born in Virginia. In 1860, John was living with his son, Soloman, in Barbour County, AL. He was listed as 104 years of age thus a birth year of 1756, born in North Carolina, and cited as a Rev. War veteran. Documentation to support Rev. War service not located. His death date is cited as 1868 by most researchers but documentation not available. As with his son, Soloman, most likely he was buried in the "old family church burying grounds" near Howe, Barbour County, Alabama. For that reason he will be given that honor and his death and burial will be recognized.

Corrected and additional info always welcome.
