The obituary published in the Burlington Daily News December 22, 1922) states Edward was the owner and Publisher of the Suncook Valley Times (Pittsfield, New Hampshire) for about a year after graduating from Dartmouth College in 1871. The Library of Congress website Chronicling America suggests the paper was known as the Pittsfield Times when it was published by D.T. Neale & Edward Johnson. Edward moved to Burlington abot 1872, where he was the night editor for the Free Press for 13 years. After 10 years as editor of the St. Johnsbury Republican, he returned to Burlington as editor of The News until retiring in 1916.
