Elnorane was born to Clara Mead and Carl Hilton May 2, 1923 in Itasca, Texas. Elnorane, known to her many friends as Bubba, spent her whole life in and around Itasca. She was christened as an infant in the Itasca Methodist Church and became a member at the age of 11. This was her church home all of her life. She graduated from Itasca High School in 1940 where she was a flag bearer for the band. Upon graduation, she attended Draughon’s Business College in Dallas. She married her childhood sweetheart, George Atkinson, January 9, 1941. George was drafted into the Army in February of 1942 during WWII. He sadly left his pregnant wife behind and was deployed to India to serve his country. Elnorane gave birth to a baby girl, Sandra, in June of 1942. It was not until 1945 that George was reunited with his beautiful bride and was introduced to his almost three-year-old daughter, Sandra. In December of 1949, Elnorane gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Judy, who was joyously added to the Atkinson family. Elnorane was employed at Woods Drug Store during George’s absence. She spent many years as a secretary at Buie’s Hardware and later as office manager of Burks Insurance and subsequently, Bounds Insurance. Elnorane not only worked outside the home, but did double duty as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. After her retirement, Elnorane unleashed her creative juices and began a successful and satisfying craft business in which she and George engaged for several years. Elnorane was very active in her church. She taught Sunday school, served on the church board, Finance Committee, Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Bereavement Committee and Fellowship Committee. She enthusiastically served her community on many committees, including most recently the Revitalization Committee. Elnorane and George served Meals on Wheels for more than ten years to homebound citizens of Itasca. George and Elnorane were recognized by the Rotary Club as Outstanding Citizens of the Year and named Sweethearts of the Lions Club. After a short stay in the hospital, Elnorane entered Homestead Nursing Home of Itasca in November of 2011 where she enjoyed group activities and continued to delight in her craft business. Elnorane went to be with the Lord and join George on March 25, 2016. On March 5, 2016, Elnorane was preceded in death by George, her husband of 75 years.
