She was born south of Eustis, Nebraska on August 8, 1925 to Jesse R. and Frieda L. (Hueftle) Houser. Doris graduated eighth grade from Gosper County District 32 and later graduated from Eustis High school in 1943. Doris taught country school after receiving her Normal Training certificate. Later Doris attended beauty school in Grand Island. While there, she lived with the family of Dorothy Lynch, creator of the famous salad dressing.
On February 23, 1946 she was united in marriage to Albert Farr in Cambridge. It was a double wedding with her sister, Lilly and husband Argil Donner. The couple honeymooned in Colorado before returning to Nebraska. The couple made their home northeast of Cambridge until they moved to town in 1974.
Doris was a member of the Prairie Bell Club. She enjoyed oil painting, gardening and her flower garden of irises and roses. At one time she had over 100 varieties of roses. She loved to bake with her husband Albert. They made and shared over 500 angel food cakes with friends and family.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, daughter Wilma, granddaughter Amanda Farr, great-grandson Tyson Sayer, great-granddaughter Gentry Farr, granddaughter-in-law Donnie Farr, four brothers Raymond, Rex, Homer and Bob Houser.
Funeral services will be Saturday March 26 at the Congregational Church in Cambridge. Interment will be in the Holbrook Cemetery. Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge is in charge of arrangements.
