Age 100, departed this life Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at home. She was born August 14, 1915 in Chatham, MS, the daughter of Edward and Ophelia Clifton. Her mother passed away when Catherine was very young. Catherine was raised by her father and Laura Clifton, whom he married after Ophelia’s death.

God blessed Catherine with 100 years and seven long months. She was a warm-hearted, devoted and teaching mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She loved the name of Jesus Christ whom she worshipped and served for more than 85 years. Catherine was an Eastern Star and a past member of Tree of Life Baptist Church and New Covenant Baptist Church, both of Detroit. In her later years and declining health, she attended Second Baptist Church of Ypsilanti.

Survivors include: four sons, Thomas Clifton of Nashville, TN, Clifton Davis of Warren, MI and Fleming Davis and Albert Davis, both of Ypsilanti; one daughter Georgia Grisson of Ypsilanti; 27 grandchildren, Betty Owens, Benette Davis, Mary Davis, Lewis Davis, James Baker, Terry Winslow, Cedric Sorrell, James Gibson III, MeKeba Gibson Reed, Latonya Gibson McCray, Jermain Gibson, Trina Gibson, Charles Gibson, Tenesha M. Clifton, Kenya M. Clifton, Jaamil T. Clifton, Catherine Davis II, Clinton Davis, India Banks, Latonya Davis, Georgiana Davis, James Thomas Davis, Albert Troy Birt, Timothy Davis, Ashley Davis, Ronnie Davis and Clifton Davis; 60 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and both mothers; husband George Davis Jr.; one daughter Ophelia Davis; one son James Gibson; one grandson Charles Gibson; two sisters, Laura Clifton and Annie Mae Riggs; and three brothers, Tom Woods, Charles Clifton and Thomas Clifton.

The funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Second Baptist Church, 301 S. Hamilton Street, Ypsilanti where the family hour will be from 10 am until time of service. Burial will follow in Union-Udell Cemetery.
