Lowman West, age 77 of Runnells, died Friday, October 6, 2006 at CLC Nursing Home in Altoona. Funeral services for Mr. West will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City with burial following at Lowman Cemetery near Runnells. Visitation for Mr. West will be held on Monday, October 9, 2006 at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present to great friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer's Association and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfunralhomes.com.
The son of Cordis and Agnes (Burnett) West, Lowman was born on October 18, 1928 in Runnells, Iowa. Lowman attended Collins School. After completing school, Lowman proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. On December 30, 1950 Lowman was united in marriage to Colene Wilcox at Norwoodville, Iowa. Lowman spent his life working at Bookey Pack, Swifts, Iowa Pack, and Southridge Mall. When not working, Lowman like to spend his time fishing, mushroom hunting, cutting wood, or playing cribbage. Those left to honor his memory are his wife Colene and his three children: Steven and his wife Marie of Hebron, Indiana, Sheryl West of Runnells, and Craig West of Runnells. Those also left to honor his memory are his grandchildren: Christine Dragus of Whiting, Indiana, Michele West of Lansing, Illinois, Patricia Ball of Lansing, Illinois, Loren West of Altoona, and Elisabeth Scovel of Runnells and one great granddaughter Josie Dragus along with his siblings: Lewis West of Big Oak Flat, California, Kenneth West of Runnells, James West of Runnells, Vermell Miller of Runnells, Darlene Doty of Runnells, Elsie Ingle of Runnells, Donna Kain of Indianola, and Marjorie Launsdale of Norwalk. Lowman was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Billy and Jackie West, and one sister Betty Templeton.
