Paul D. Freeman, 83, of Basalt passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at EIRMC surrounded by his family.

Paul was born on March 21, 1933 to Lorin and Dolores Jensen Freeman. He attended Firth High School, served in United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 85.

On January 7, 1955 he married Helen Joy Parmer in Menan, Idaho. They have six children: Kathy (Reynold) Morgan and Cheri (Kip) Mickelsen of Blackfoot, Ted (Robin) Freeman, Debbie (Kevin) Wilkie, Paula (Forrest) Call of Idaho Falls and Doug (Lynn) Freeman of Basalt; 27 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and many other families and friends that call him “Grandpa Paul”. He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings and one granddaughter, Ashley Wilkie.

Paul retired several times, first from Monroc Concrete in Idaho Falls, then from his job of transporting new school busses to their homes and twice from Broadmouth Canyon Ranch. Dad loved to work; his final retirement came last year at the age of 82.

Paul’s passions in life were his family, friends and horses. He served many years as the advisor for the Idaho Falls Jr. Posse horse riding group and was an avid rodeo fan. He cherished every minute he spent with his family in Island Park camping, fishing and hunting. He was so proud of working together last summer with his family building the family cabin (condo as he called it) on his property in Island Park. He found great joy as he turned the ownership over to his children to enjoy. He loved spending the winter months in Yuma, Arizona with his wife and the many friends and families he made there. Dad loved to garden and his heart and home were always open to everyone.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Shane Machen, Dr. David Shrader and the staff at EIRMC for their gentle care and support.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Basalt Cemetery under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to a youth organization of your choice.
