Edward S. Akers, 73, of 509 Harrison St., Chester, was pronounced dead on arrival Saturday, Aug. 20, 1977, at the Memorial Hospital of Chester after an extended illness.
The editor of the Chester Herald Tribune weekly newspaper since 1958, Mr. Akers was born Nov. 1, 1903 in Kinderhook to Edwin W. and Anna Wilson Akers.
He was married Nov. 17, 1935 in Woodriver to Louise Carnahan, who survives.
Other survivors include one son, Lewis Akers, of Mexico, Mo.; one daughter, Margaret Ann Akers, of Chester; two brothers, J. Wilson Akers, Dearborn, Mich., and J. T. Akers, Chester; and two grandchildren. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Akers was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chester.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Schroeder Funeral Chapel in Chester. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Hospital of Chester.
