She was born Feb. 8, 1925 in Ottumwa to Wilbur and
Madeline Grimsley McCullough. Barbara went to live with her maternal grandparents Victor and Jennie Grimsley, at the age of 7. She married Carroll Parr on Oct. 25, 1952; the later divorced. She married Chester A.A. Gee on May 17, 1975. He preceded her in death Oct. 30, 1986.
Barbara helped farm her grandparents farm while her brother, Claude, served in World War II, and stayed to help him when he returned from service.
She was a 1942 graduate of Ottumwa Heights Academy. Barbara drove a bus for Ottumwa Transit from 1966-74, and helped her husband, Chester, operate Chester A.A. Gee Trucking until retiring in 1980.
Her great love was her horse, Smokey, which she raised from a colt. She enjoyed following her grandchildren sporting events and Figure 8 Racing.
Barbara was a fan of the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs, and the Boston Celtics.
Surviving are her children; Teresa Martin of Tulsa, Okla., David (Judy) Parr of Kaufman, Texas, Joy (Mike) Orona of Ottumwa, Daniel Parr of Ottumwa, Kathy (Mark) Vander Meiden of Oskaloosa and Diane (Stan) Swartz of Ottumwa; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a close friend, Lizzy Miller, and her cat Psycho.
She was preced in death by a son, Paul; her mother, Madeline Hardyk; a brother, Claude McCullough; a sister, Carolyn Griswold and her maternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be held 10.am. Friday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials may be made to Keokuk County Expo for Figure 8 Racing.
