ROSEDALE
The funeral of David Mathias will take place to-day at 3 o'clock. He will be buried at the Union cemetery. Mr. Mathias was born at Donlais, Wales, and at the time of his death was 63 years of age. From Wales he went to Scotland, and soon became a most successful iron-worker, and soon became the most practical iron-worker in the United States. He came to Rosedale among the first settlers, and was twice elected mayor of the city. Finally he became a member of the firm of Habaugh, Mathias & Owens, the well-known ornamental iron-workers. It was Mr. Mathias who built the well known Bridgeport works at Chicago, and was elected manager for years. There is a general grief over his death here, and during the funeral all the stores will be closed.
G. S. Mathias, superintendent of the Chicago steel works, and Dan Mathias, of the Belleville steel works, also two daughter of the late David Mathias, arrived last night.

Rosedale was a town just across the state line on the Kansas side. It was later incorporated into Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas.

Cemetery records were all lost in a fire in the sexton's cottage in 1889 so there is no record of his burial plot nor information on his burial or family.
