Midori Akomoto, who died on January 12, 2005, at her Watsonville residence. Born in Auburn, her family moved to Watsonville, where she graduated from Watsonville High School.

She lived in the Pajaro Valley for 78 years and was a member of the Japanese American Citizens League. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, play bingo, and travel to Reno.

She is survived by her sons Timothy and Thomas of Watsonville, Mark of Santa Cruz, and Scott of Redwood City; daughters Joyce Herceg of Nevada, Harriet Toledo of Texas, Tina Rusler of Porterville, and Ginny Barr, Ida Akimoto, and Elizabeth Frum, all of Watsonville; sisters Fumi Sugimoto of Gardenia, Toyo Hada of Texas, and Ida Yamata of Michigan; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, to whom she had been married for 45 years.

Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m.and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Davis Memorial Chapel in Watsonville. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.

Midori Akimoto was interned at the Colorado River Relocation Center (a concentration camp) near Poston, Arizona, from 29 Jun 1942 to 26 Jul 1944.
