Miss Janet Allen, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth and the late John Allen, died Saturday. She died as a consequence of an attack of Spanish influenza followed by pneumonia.
She was 16 years old. She was a girl of great beauty of heart and mind and soul. She is mourned by all who knew her. The first hours of life's day were very new to her. She found in them all that was sweetest truest and best of earth. She shared those joys, those smiles, that happiness of youth and young years with those she loved so dearly and those whom her kindly heart held in friendships and affections. Her friends were limited only by the numbers of her acquaintances. She was ever ready to make sacrifices for those she loved or knew. She was true to duty, home, faith. She found pleasure in work, study and effort. Her illness, she bore cheerfully and with gracious resignation. Loving hands, devoted relatives and friends with strove to help her brave spirit battle off the malady, but as the shadows of evening lengthened into the night of Saturday her soul passed to that other world of eternal youth and beauty.
She is survived by her mother and two brothers, Ted and John. She was a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church and was a member of the class of '20, Sharon High School.
Rev. W. M. Diefenderfer will officiate at the funeral which will be held from the family home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment will be made in Oakwood. [the sharon herald 28 Oct 1918]
