Husband of Elizabeth S. Allen.

Son of John Alexander & Jennie Brownlee Allen.

Father of Janet B., Edgar P. and John L. Allen

John L. Allen, 39 years old, of the undertaking form of Sample & Allen; and one of the most prominent and popular young business men of Sharon, died, yesterday morning at his home on North Main Street. He had been ill for the past ten days from pneumonia and while his death was not altogether unexpected, it came as a shock to his family and friends. Mr. Allen was born in Sharon and had spent nearly his whole life here. He resided a short time at Roanoke, VA and later became a salesman for the Freedom Casket Company. In 1900 he was sent to Cuba by the United States government to take charge of the work of ??? the bodies of soldiers who met death during the Spanish-American war and he remained for three months on the island. While still on the road for the Freedom company he purchased an interest in the business of Burgess Sam??, but it was only six years ago that he became actively associated in the firm. He was recognized as one of the most skilled members of his profession in this section and stood high in the ??? of his associates in the business. His personal popularity was great and his death is universally regretted. He was a member of the Sharon Lodge, B. P. of Elks, of Sharon, Aerie of Eagles and of the Protected Home Circle. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife and two children, Janet B. and Edgar Pl. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Janet B. Allen, and the following brothers and sisters; Garvin B., Fred C., and Robert P. Allen of Sharon; Mrs. Nellie A. Rees, Misses Margaret, Clarissa, and Mary of Sharon; Miss Belle I. Allen of Philadelphia and Mrs. Hugh Hill of Charleroi.
