(bio by Jen Snoots) Capt. Groves was wounded in the face at the Battle of Monocacy in Maryland, July 9, 1864, losing his left eye as a result. He was captured and died soon after. NOTE the the mistakes on the stone.

Roll to Aug. 31, 1864, Died of wounds recd. at Battle of Monocacy, Md., July 9, 1864. Born Louisiana, occupation farmer, Res. Booth; New Orleans, LA, USA: n.p., 1920.)Son of James Groves and Nancy Ann Perkins. He was in the 1st Louisiana infantry and died in the battle of monocacy. He was shot in the left eye and died over a week later. His name is mispelled and his death date is a year off.
