James Baxter, son of James Baxter and Mary Baxter, formerly Ward, was born on 26 January 1878, at Kilcock.
His father was a Tin Smith.

In the 1901 census, the family were living at Kilcock, Co. Kildare.

BAXTER, JAMES PATRICK, Private, No. 5640, 2nd Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers, eldest son of James Baxter, of School Street, Kilcock, co. Kildare, by his wife, Mary, daughter of John Word; b. Kilcock, 26 Jan. 1883; educated the Christian Brothers' School there; joined the 3rd Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers on the outbreak of war, and was later transferred to the 2nd Battalion He died at Netley Hospital, 4 May, 1915, from wounds received at St. Julien on the night of 25-26 April; unmarried. Private Baxter's two younger brothers are also in the Army.
