Aubrey Suarez was the son of Jose' Suarez and Jane Ann Saffen, and was born 11 November 1840, in Warrington, Escambia County, Florida. He served as an apprentice house carpenter at the Pensacola Navy Yard prior to the Civil War. On 12 July 1861, Aubrey enlisted in the Pensacola Guards, and served in Captain Jack Farris' Company.He then transferred to Company C, 15th Confederate Cavalry, providing his own horse. He fought at Chickamauga and Gettysburg. When the war ended, he was discharged and returned home on the same horse. Neither he nor his horse had been injured. Aubrey was married twice. Aubrey married Anna Harris on 25 December 1873, in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama. Anna died sometime after 1900, and Aubrey married Mary Elizabeth Kee on 17 July 1912 in Escambia County, Florida.
