James C. Corley was the son of John Corley & Sarah Morris, who divorced & he was apparently raised by his Dad & step-Mom, Ginnie. James moved to the Crenshaw County at an unspecified date, where he met & married Ola Zell Davis, daughter of Hilary Herbert Davis & Nancy "Fairy" Ferrington Hancock, on March 10, 1923. There was an age difference between James 29 & Ola 18/ They were married at the residence of J.C. Powell, JP in Beat 10 in Luverne, Crenshaw County, Alabama. James was a sawmill worker in Glenwood, Alabama, where he & Ola Zell bought a house & settled down to raise their children: James D. Corley, Howard R. Corley, Paul Corley, Sarah Beth Corley, Lucious Corley, Johnny Corley, Ferry Corley, & Tommy Corley. From these children they had MANY MANY grandchildren & great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren.

Excerpt from the Luverne Journal & News:
James C. Corley, 72, died Wednesday in a Montgomery hospital. Services were held Friday at 3pm from the Bethel Baptist Church witht he Reverend Bobby Gray officiating. Interment was in the Providence Ceemetery with Turner's Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Survivors includ the widow, Mrs Zell Corley, Glenwood; 6 sons, James D., Howard & Lucious Corley, all of Mongomery; Paul Corley of Deatsville, Johnny Corley of New Orleans, La., & Tommy Corley of Amarillo AFB Texas; Mrs Sara Downing & Mrs Fairy Morgan, both of Montgomery; 17 granchildren.

James was also a PROUD Veteran of World War I, he told his children & grandchildren of his times in the service of his Country & made them feel his pride for service well done.

I also have several dates of birth for my great-great-grandfather. I put into FAG the date on his tombstone marker. James' death certificate shows March 7, 1886, from the 1920 Census, his date of birth is given as 1892, his marriage Certificate shows 1894, and on & on. The mystery continues. When I find out for sure I will change the record, but I will let the mystery stand as is for now.
