Following the death of his wife in 1895 he moved to his son Lewis's home in Wilmerding, Allegheny County, PA. George died at his sons home on Thursday, November 10, 1904 following a "paralytic stroke". He was 82 years old. The obits list three survivors, James, Edward (Edwin) and Lendell (Louis) Hoagland. Other records suggest that George may have had two other children, Alviso and Anna.
A funeral service was held at the Disciples Church in Edinburg on November 19th, and burial followed in near by Park Cemetery.
