Mason Simmons was born June 8, 1849 near Cole's Bridge (Adair-Eanon) to John Benjamin & Keron Happuch Bryant Simmons.. He married Nancy Ann Fort. They ran a country store on their farm. Mason was the postmaster at the Adair Community beginning in 1892. They had 6 children, Daniel Augustus, Mary E. Simmons Martin Stevens, Martha "Mattie", Alto, Charles M., and Alfred "Alford" Simmons. It was believed that Mason and his son, Alto, had both died of typhoid fever in 1906 and are both buried at Old Tabernacle Cemetery.
