Family history by word of mouth was that Jason died in the War Between the States. He was listed on a muster roll at age 18 in Co. K, 33rd AL regiment on 15 Mar 1862. On July 22, 1862, he and his brothers were listed as heirs of his older brother's estate when his father filed papers of administration for Thomas J. Simmons, who had died in Oct of 1861 in the War. By November of 1863, he was no longer listed as an heir to his brother's estate, meaning that he, too, had died. He was 19 or 20 years old.
