ROME - Wayne Holt, 73, passed away at the Togus Hospice Center in Chelsea on May 11, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Rome in 1942 to Lloyd and Elia 'Babe" (Kelley) Holt.

He graduated from Williams High School in 1960 and soon after went into the Navy serving on the USS Wasp.

After leaving the Navy he became a long distance truck driver. He drove for 37 years delivering products for Pioneer Plastics in Auburn until he retired in 2001.

Wayne served on the Rome Board of Selectmen in the early 70's, was a member of Mt Philip Grange #545 and a devoted grandfather.

He is predeceased by a daughter Shelley J Holt; his parents; three sisters Cleo, Myrtle and Dixie, and brother Lennis "'Hoss". Wayne is survived by Barbara, his wife of 53 years; two daughters Shannon Holt and Kelly Archer and Kelly's husband Richard; two grandsons Richard Archer, Jr. & Jacob Archer, all of Rome; two sisters JoAnn Holt and Rita (Holt) Nadeau of Rome and one brother Glendon also of Rome; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks go to the VA Togus for their wonderful care of Wayne and a very special thank you to Dr. Hoang Lee, his oncologist, and Nurse Monique and all the staff in the Oncology Dept. We are also very thankful to the VA Hospice nurses and doctors that were so caring and helpful through this trying time.

Services will be private for family and close friends at the Holt Family Cemetery at a later date. (Central Maine Newspapers 5/17/2016)
