Died in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City, Utah.

From The Idaho Daily Statesman (Boise, ID) - Tuesday, October 26, 1954:
Services for Joseph Warren Black, 81, who died Friday in a Salt Lake City hospital, will be conducted at the LDS Fourth ward church Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be at Cloverdale.
Mr. Black was born May 28, 1873 at Oxford, Idaho. He enlisted in the Army during the Spanish-American War and served for 13 months in the U.S. and the Philippine Islands. He was married after the war to Sarah Stewart in the Logan LDS Temple. The couple lived in LaGrande, Oregon from 1908 to 1913 when they moved to Teton, Idaho. They came to Boise in 1920 and he farmed and worked on the police force for a number of years. He was injured in a traffic accident in 1947.
In addition to Mrs. Black, he is survived by three sons, Vernon Black of Boise, Jefferson Black of Venice, California, and Wayne Black of Renton, Washington; two daughters, Mrs. C. D. Rosenlof of St. Anthony, and Mrs. Verne Hicks of Eagle; a brother, John Black of Boise; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Lewis of Los Angeles and Mrs. Minnie Garner of Sugar City, Idaho; and 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
